Be a Lifesaver: Learn QPR Suicide Prevention Skills

Suicide is a serious public health concern, claiming a life every 40 seconds.  While the thought of suicide can be overwhelming, there are steps you can take to help someone in crisis.  The good news is, you don't need to be a mental health professional to make a difference.

One powerful tool you can learn is QPR.  QPR stands for Question, Persuade, Refer, and it's a simple, evidence-based training that equips you with the skills to recognize the warning signs of suicide, have a supportive conversation, and connect the person to help.

Why Learn QPR?

  • Save a life:  By recognizing the signs and knowing how to respond, you could be the lifeline someone needs in their darkest hour.

  • Gain confidence:  QPR training equips you with the knowledge and tools to navigate these difficult situations with confidence.

  • Become a better support system:  Learning QPR allows you to be a more informed and supportive friend, family member, or colleague.

How Does QPR Work?

  1. Question:  Learn to recognize the warning signs of suicide, which can include changes in mood, behavior, or communication.

  2. Persuade:  Develop the skills to talk openly and compassionately with someone who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts.

  3. Refer:  Become familiar with resources and professionals who can provide the support and treatment needed.
