Behind the Mission: Why We’re Passionate About Mental Health Advocacy

At Hyman Consulting, our commitment to mental health advocacy isn’t just a business mission—it’s a deeply personal journey. Every program we design, every training we deliver, and every community we support stems from a shared passion for empowering individuals and fostering environments where mental health is prioritized.

Our journey began with our founder, Jameelah Bennett, whose extensive career in social work and talent development revealed critical gaps in mental health education and support within organizations and communities. These gaps often left individuals and teams unprepared to identify and intervene in mental health crises, particularly in underserved populations and among educators, social service providers, and community members. At Hyman Consulting, we believe that training employees and community members to recognize and respond to mental health challenges is not just important—it’s essential.

Bridging these gaps requires more than typical training programs. While many programs focus solely on awareness, we prioritize enhanced, actionable training that empowers participants to confidently recognize early warning signs, provide initial support, and connect individuals with appropriate resources. By integrating practical skills, scenario-based learning, and culturally responsive approaches, our training goes beyond surface-level education. It ensures employees and community members can intervene effectively and compassionately when working with individuals facing mental health challenges and disorders.

Our innovative mental health and suicide prevention programs are designed to create lasting change at every level—individual, organizational, and community. Through these efforts, we’re not just raising awareness; we’re equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to foster safe, supportive, and inclusive environments. Whether it’s an employee in a corporate setting, a teacher in a classroom, or a community leader on the front lines, our goal is to ensure that everyone is prepared to be a vital link in the chain of mental health support. Together, we’re transforming the way mental health is understood and addressed, one training at a time.

Our passion for mental health advocacy is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves access to compassionate support and education. We’ve seen how a simple conversation about mental health can transform a workplace, strengthen a family, and even save a life. This belief drives us to deliver impactful training programs, like Mental Health First Aid and QPR Gatekeeper, tailored to meet the unique needs of each group we serve. From collaborating with community leaders to helping businesses embed mental health initiatives into their culture, we see every project as an opportunity to create lasting change. Our focus is on education, empowerment, and fostering environments where people feel seen, heard, and supported.

One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is witnessing the transformative power of mental health advocacy. For example, through our partnerships with organizations like the Florida Department of Health, ISF, Inc., Nutrien, and Nutrien Ag Solutions, we’ve trained hundreds of individuals to recognize the signs of mental health challenges and provide life-saving interventions. These programs not only equip participants with practical skills but also cultivate empathy and understanding—values that ripple out into the communities they serve.

Mental health advocacy is a shared responsibility, and we’re inspired by the stories of those who have joined us in this mission. What drives you to support mental health? Whether it’s a personal experience, a professional goal, or a desire to make a difference, we want to hear your “why.” Share your story in the comments or reach out to us directly. Together, we can build a world where mental health is valued, supported, and understood.
